Uttarakhand: 136 Madrasas Sealed So Far, Funding of Illegal Madrasas to Be Investigated on CM Dhami’s Orders
According to the report, more than 500 illegal madrasas are operating across the state. So far, 136 madrasas have been sealed due to incomplete documentation.
After taking strict action against illegal madrasas, the Uttarakhand government is now going to conduct a thorough investigation into their funding. Officials will submit the report directly to the Chief Minister. Over the past month, extensive action has been underway across the state against illegal madrasas.
On Monday, the Dehradun district administration team sealed a major madrasa in Sahaspur after previously issuing a notice in connection with illegal construction. The madrasa had illegally constructed an additional floor without authorization from the authorities. The question arises: where is the money coming from to run these madrasas and pay staff salaries? The investigation will reveal whether these madrasas operating in Devbhoomi (Land of the Gods) are being funded from foreign countries.
#District-Level Committee to Conduct Investigation
There are around 450 registered madrasas in the state, which provide complete details of their documents, bank accounts, and income-expenditure to the administration. However, over 500 madrasas are operating without any official recognition. The government has issued strict instructions to district administrations to verify the students studying in these madrasas and investigate their financial sources. It will also be ensured that the sources of funding are identified and the purpose of its usage is clarified.
#Illegal Madrasas Emerging in Border Areas
In recent times, many unregistered madrasas have reportedly opened in border towns adjoining Uttar Pradesh such as Jaspur, Bajpur, Kichha, Kashipur, Rudrapur, Gadarpur, Pachhwadun, and Haridwar district. The rising number of illegally operated madrasas in these areas is a serious security concern.
#Number of Illegal Madrasas Sealed So Far:
| District | Number of Illegal Madrasas
| Udham Singh Nagar | 64 |
| Dehradun | 44 |
| Haridwar | 26 |
| Pauri Garhwal | 02 |
Action against illegal madrasas, mazars (shrines), and encroachments will continue across the state. The large-scale illegal operation of madrasas is a serious issue, and officials have been given necessary guidelines for thorough investigation.
