Addressing the media, Jan Sangharsh Morcha President and former Vice-Chairman of GMVN, Raghunath Singh Negi, said that the situation in the state has become extremely alarming.

In most districts, riverbeds are being dug up day and night without any checks, leading to a rampant illegal mining business that causes a massive loss of revenue amounting to thousands of crores. According to him, the government is being run by mafias, and every decision is made at their behest. A few dedicated officers want to take action, but they remain helpless in front of the system. Those who attempt to act are sidelined.

Negi added that government policies are being changed overnight in favor of the mafias, and to ensure that their interests aren’t harmed, the government hires high-profile private lawyers at huge costs to represent them. He alleged that the state is being hollowed out in a bid to repay the mafias who helped in forming the government. Appointments to key posts are made based on internal deals, while honest and hardworking officers are being pushed aside.

Negi further alleged that senior officials including the Commissioners of Garhwal and Kumaon, District Magistrates, and top police officers are merely sycophants. One particular officer is so obsessed with making Facebook reels that he has apparently turned blind to the rampant illegal mining taking place in the rivers. The illegal mining trade in the state is now being discussed across the country, but those responsible are busy reaping personal benefits, ignoring the reputation and interests of the state.

The Morcha will continue to expose the dark realities of the government’s corrupt dealings before the public.

Present at the press conference were Morcha General Secretary Akash Panwar and Praveen Sharma ‘Pinni’.
