Vikasnagar – Jan Sangharsh Morcha President and former GMVN Vice Chairman Raghunath Singh Negi, while addressing a press conference, said that ever since the Dhami government assumed office, the rise in electricity tariffs and rampant power theft (line loss) have shown no signs of stopping. In 2021–22, the electricity tariff was set at ₹2.80 per unit for up to 100 units, ₹4.00 per unit for 100–200 units, ₹5.50 per unit for 200–400 units, and ₹6.25 per unit for consumption above 400 units. However, in a recent revision, the government has increased the rates to ₹3.65 per unit for up to 100 units, ₹5.25 per unit for 100–200 units, ₹7.15 per unit for 200–400 units, and ₹7.80 per unit for usage above 400 units. This, he said, is outright daylight robbery.

Besides the inflated rates, several types of taxes are also being added to the electricity bills. Negi claimed that under Dhami’s tenure, line loss in many power distribution divisions across the state has reached 50 to 70 percent, which the government has completely failed to curb. He questioned how such conditions exist in a state that produces an abundance of electricity, and said one can only imagine the situation in other states.
“In such a scenario, what exactly is the government celebrating as an achievement?” he asked. “The government, which has failed on every front, is looting the public treasury by paying hefty sums to media outlets for advertisements to sing its praises — while on the ground, there is zero achievement to show for it.”

The people of the state are forced to mourn, he said, while the irresponsible Raj Bhawan plays the role of a blindfolded Dhritarashtra, merely watching the spectacle unfold.

Present at the press conference were Vijayram Sharma and Praveen Sharma ‘Pinni’.
