Uttarakhand’s Char Dham Yatra is set to officially commence from April 30, and there is a strong possibility that the number of pilgrims participating in the Yatra will increase significantly this year. A news team visited the revered Yamunotri Dham in Uttarkashi to assess the preparations and found that although the Yatra is just a few days away, the ground-level administrative efforts appear to be only superficial.
While the district administration claims preparations are happening on a war footing, the news team, upon visiting the ground zero, observed that the cleanliness and arrangements seen during the 2024 Yatra have remained confined to the district collectorate offices. Even during official meetings, the presence of filth at various points in Yamunotri raises serious concerns about the administration’s claims.
In an exclusive conversation with our correspondent, the temple committee stated that it’s been a year, and still no visible work has been carried out by the administration in Yamunotri Dham. They added that only cosmetic work is being done on the pedestrian routes leading to the Dham. Despite pilgrims coming from across India and abroad and contributing to the littering, the district administration fails to clean up even after six months.
When it comes to waste lying in various areas, the administration’s claims about cleanliness seem to exist only in paperwork and air-conditioned offices. It remains to be seen how long the superficial patchwork on the routes and the scattered filth will continue to persist.
