The Government Veterinary Hospital in Lalkuan is in a state of severe neglect. The hospital building, which serves a city with a population in the thousands, is completely dilapidated and itself in need of treatment. Visitors bringing in sick animals face the risk of accidents due to the crumbling structure. Not long ago, a hospital staff member narrowly escaped injury when debris from the decaying roof fell into the office while a computer was in use. Doctors and staff are now forced to work under constant fear in the deteriorating hospital building.
On the matter, Karam Ram, Under Secretary in the Department of Animal Husbandry, Government of Uttarakhand, stated that the issue has come to his attention and that he will speak with the District Veterinary Officer to initiate action soon.
