31 years ago, the chests of agitators were pierced with bullets on the soil of Mussoorie. To remember this sacrifice, tributes are offered every year at the martyr site. But this time, the program was not limited to tributes — it turned into a platform for political accusations and sharp slogans. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reached the Mussoorie martyr site, paid homage to the martyrs, and offered flowers in respect. But as soon as he left the program for Dehradun, workers of the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal present outside started raising loud slogans. They shouted slogans like “Down with anti-state forces,” “Down with the Dhami government,” and “Punish the killers of martyrs.”
The leaders of the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal alleged that the martyr site is no longer for the common people and real agitators, but has become reserved only for VIP leaders. Many old agitators and UKD leaders were stopped at Gandhi Chowk itself, which they considered an insult. According to them, the program became more of a political demonstration than a state tribute.
UKD leaders made serious allegations against the central government and the BJP. They said that during the Uttarakhand movement, it was on the orders of the then Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav that bullets were fired, and today the same leader is being honored with the Padma Bhushan. These are the same leaders under whose rule young people of Uttarakhand were shot. To honor him is an insult to the martyrs of Uttarakhand. They said that the BJP’s double standards will no longer be tolerated. On one side, there is talk of paying tribute to the martyrs, while on the other, their killers are being honored.
UKD leaders said in clear words that the killers of Uttarakhand’s martyrs are still roaming freely, without punishment to this day, which is a matter of shame for the state government. The UKD leaders further said that they will contest the 2027 Assembly elections with full strength. They claimed that neither Congress nor BJP together will be able to stop them. The people are now tired of national parties, and only a regional party can truly understand the spirit of the state.
The UKD leaders announced that if their government comes to power, corrupt officers and leaders will be sent to jail, no matter how high their position may be.
