Why no punishment for the actual mastermind?
Vikasnagar – Jan Sangharsh Morcha President and former Vice Chairman of GMVN, Raghunath Singh Negi, while addressing the press, said that in the Haridwar Municipal Corporation land purchase scam, the main mastermind/fraudster, who currently holds a crucial position in the government on the of the secretariat (Chief Minister’s Office), should be removed from his position immediately. He stated that this highly corrupt official, who orchestrated the entire scam, must be acted against. The government should proceed with a CBI investigation and file an FIR against all those involved in this scam.
Negi added that the scam was executed under the instructions and pressure of this powerful and well-connected mastermind/fraudster official. Though several officials involved have been suspended under pressure and vigilance inquiries have been ordered — which is a commendable step — it is unfortunate that no action has been taken against the real mastermind so far.
Sources reveal that this mastermind official exerted pressure on the District Magistrate, SDM, Municipal Commissioner, and other officials to break rules and expedite illegal work. Negi demanded that this corrupt officer must also be relieved from all other responsibilities.
Negi further questioned how land adjacent to a garbage dump, covering several bighas, was declared usable overnight and purchased for ₹54 crores despite its actual value being only ₹14 crores — causing a loss of nearly ₹40 crores to the government.
He also noted that although IAS officer Ranveer Singh Chauhan has already conducted an inquiry into the scam and as a result, 12 officers have been suspended or had their extensions terminated, an FIR should already have been lodged under sections related to criminal conspiracy and the Prevention of Corruption Act — but it hasn’t happened yet.
Negi strongly stated that innocent officials are bearing the punishment for the misdeeds of the real fraudster, who has tarnished the image of the government. The Morcha urges the government to take action in the interest of justice by removing the mastermind/fraudster officer from the initiating a CBI probe and FIR against the entire corrupt network.
