Department Fails to Fill Potholes on Damaged Roads, Common People Bear the Brunt

In the rural areas of the state, the departments are failing miserably in repairing pothole-ridden roads, and the common people are paying the price. Watch this special report…

These visuals are from the Vikasnagar region of Dehradun, the state capital.

This road, connecting more than half a dozen gram panchayats from Dharmawala Chowk to Kunja village, was constructed by the Public Works Department (PWD) nearly three years ago.

Just two years after construction, the road started developing potholes in several places.

After the monsoon, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had directed the concerned departments to fill these potholes.

Following the Chief Minister’s directives and persistent demands from the villagers, the PWD did initiate patchwork on the road. However, the department abruptly abandoned the work a few days ago and disappeared from the site.

Before leaving the work incomplete, the department simply filled the potholes with loose gravel, resulting in daily accidents as vehicles skid and people get injured.

Now take a look at the main square of Kunja Grant village along this route.

Just six months ago, the PWD installed iron grills over the drains here.

But before the onset of the monsoon, this main square has turned into an open drain.

Villagers allege that due to poor construction quality, the newly built drain and iron grills didn’t even last a few days.

People frequently fall and get injured here. The collapsed grills have caused dirty water to overflow onto the roads, increasing the risk of diseases in the area.

The situation clearly indicates that some officials and employees are damaging the government’s image.

Villagers are demanding that the department complete the patchwork and repair the roads in rural areas before the monsoon begins.
