The Dhami government of Uttarakhand recently renamed 17 locations across the state. The renaming of Miyanwala in Dehradun has sparked protest among the local Rajput community.
Locals claim that the name “Miyanwala” was given in honor of their ancestors, but the government mistakenly assumed “Miyan” to be of Muslim origin and changed the name. The residents of Miyanwala have raised objections, stating that the name originated from the honorific “Miyan,” bestowed upon the original Rajput families of the area, who have direct ties to the Tehri princely state.
They submitted a memorandum through District Magistrate D.M. Bansal to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, requesting the original name be restored, citing that the name change was made due to a misunderstanding.
