The Uttarakhand High Court heard a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the voter list issued by the State Election Commission for the upcoming panchayat elections. After the hearing, the division bench of the court disposed of the PIL and directed the inquiry committee, previously constituted by the District Magistrate, to examine the voter list and submit a report to the Election Commission within six weeks so that an appropriate decision can be taken promptly.
To inform you, Mahipal Singh, a resident of Dehradun, filed the PIL in the High Court stating that in the Gram Sabha Sateli Naikala of Dehradun, only two families reside, whereas the voter list issued by the Election Commission shows 122 names registered in that village. The petition claims that names of people from other villages have been added to the voter list of Gram Sabha Sateli Naikala, and these individuals are already registered as voters in other locations as well. The petitioner had earlier submitted a memorandum to the District Magistrate of Dehradun on March 17, 2025, raising concerns about the validity of the voter list for the panchayat elections and demanding an inquiry.
