Vikasnagar: Jansangharsh Morcha President and former Vice-Chairman of GMVN, Raghunath Singh, while addressing a press conference, said that the recent Haridwar Municipal Corporation land scam has led the government to recommend a Vigilance inquiry, which is a commendable step. However, the mastermind/cheating officer who has significant influence in the government, and under whose directions the entire scam was executed by other officials, has been let off, raising serious questions.
The core issue is how approximately 30 bighas of land near a garbage dump was converted in land use and bought overnight, causing a loss of nearly ₹40 crore to the government. The entire plot was executed under the directions of this corrupt and fraudulent officer.
Negi stated that it was on the directions of this mastermind that several PCS/IAS officers took action. While the fault lies with the officers for following such instructions, the key conspirator remains untouched. He added that although IAS officer Ranveer Singh Chauhan had investigated the scam and as a result, 12 officials were suspended or their service extensions revoked, an FIR under the Prevention of Corruption Act has still not been registered.
Negi further said that the Morcha assures the suspended officers that if they reveal the name of the mastermind, the Morcha will not hesitate to approach the Hon’ble Court if necessary and ensure that justice is served. Why should these officers bear the consequences of the fraud committed by that mastermind?
He also criticized the attitude of government officials who are focused solely on their self-interest and seem disconnected from public welfare and sentiment.
The Morcha demanded that Raj Bhavan must take action to file FIRs against all corrupt individuals involved in the scam and initiate a CBI investigation so that the corrupt mastermind can be brought behind bars.
