As temperatures rise, a severe drinking water crisis has started affecting Rudraprayag town—located at the confluence of the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers—as well as rural areas of the district. Due to the depletion of natural water sources, the Jal Sansthan Department is now relying on water tankers to ensure supply.
The situation is especially dire in rural areas, where residents are forced to carry water on their backs after walking long distances. Additionally, forest fires are being cited as a major reason for the drying up of these natural water sources.
Anish Pillai, Executive Engineer of Jal Sansthan, said that due to water discoloration, residents are facing significant issues. The ongoing heat and lack of rainfall are further worsening the water crisis.
