In Uttarkashi, patients admitted to the district hospital are experiencing severe difficulties due to the ongoing doctors’ strike. Many patients arriving from nearby areas are being forced to return without receiving any medical attention.
In response to the strike by doctors and hospital staff, the health department has made alternative arrangements by deploying two doctors, one pharmacist, and three GNM nurses. These doctors are providing emergency and OPD services, but due to the suspension of diagnostic services like tests and X-rays, patients are facing major inconvenience. Most are being compelled to travel to Dehradun for proper treatment.
Outside the Uttarkashi District Hospital, sick patients can be seen lying on stretchers without any attending doctors.
Dr. Pokhriyal, CMS of Uttarkashi, stated that around five to six doctors are continuously deployed to handle emergency and OPD services and assured that all efforts are being made to prevent any patient from facing undue hardship.
