Talking about the capital city Dehradun, illegal constructions and unauthorized excavation of hills and land using JCB machines are taking place here. What’s more concerning is that all of this is happening openly under the nose of the administration, with rules being blatantly violated and excavation being carried out on hills and land in clear collusion.
A similar case is unfolding on Canal Road, right next to a petrol pump on Rajpur Road, where digging is being done secretly at night using JCBs and Pokland machines. It is believed that earlier, when attempts were made to carry out work on this land, then-District Magistrate Sonika had imposed a ban on such activities.
However, the real question now is—who has granted permission for this work to resume? When the current District Magistrate was approached on this matter, she acknowledged that, according to the rules, no machine work is allowed at night. If such activity is indeed happening, action will be taken against it. She further added that if any evidence of this act is presented, she will immediately instruct the concerned officials to take strict action.
Rajpur Road is considered the soul of Dehradun. All officials and ministers pass by this hill regularly. Besides them, the brave and sharp officers of the Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority, the mining department that claims to detect illegal activity from the air, the municipal corporation, the Dehradun administration, and the police—did none of these departments notice the blatant and open cutting of the hill?
